Go Strikers!
A Message from the Coach:
Welcome Players and Parents,
I am writing to introduce the Coaches and congratulate the Players for being selected for the Stratham Strikers U10 Travel Team for the fall. My name is Robert Roseen and I will be coaching the team for Fall 2011 along with Tim Sherbak and Mike McDonnell. The Players have lots to be proud of for being selected. We look to have an excellent team with skilled players. It should be a lot of fun this fall learning and playing good soccer. This should also be a lot of fun this season together playing in the Granite State League.
[A Tentative Schedule has been posted here. Please be sure to check back often as schedules do change. It is a good idea to check the schedule directly before each event or practice. We will also try to convey cancellations or changes via email]

Overview
Our goal is to have fun, learn to love the game, develop our skills, learn sportsmanship, work hard, develop our persons and relationships with friends and teammates, and play good competitive soccer.
This team is U10, and we will most likely be competing in the Division 2 of the Granite State League. Stratham Soccer joined the Granite State League this year and it is very competitive. This league is much larger than the Seacoast League and therefore has greater parity amongst the teams, aka fewer blow outs.
Games
During the fall we will have ~14 games (7 home and 7 away). Games are held on Saturday and Sundays. The games take about 1 hour to play. We will have a pre-game practice 35 minutes before every game. Our home field is located at the Exeter Rec Park. I will also send out our fall game schedule once the league finalizes the information (beginning of September).
During the game we play 6 players at a time including the goalie. At U10 we are not specializing in positions. Kids will play a range of positions on the field. At the U10 level we use a size 4 soccer ball. The kids are not allowed to wear any jewelry, hats or loose fitting items during the game.
Cancellations
All weather related cancellations will be done by email and text messaging. Soccer is an all-weather sport so in all likelihood the games will be played unless there is a risk due to thunder and lightning. Cancellations are typically made due to field conditions, not weather. Be sure I have your cell #.
Practice
Our first practice will be Monday August 15th. Practice days will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-730 at SMS.
Homework for the first practice:
You need to come in with 2 numbers
- The number of consecutive balls juggled at the beginning of the summer, and
- The number you are able to juggle by the first practice. Be prepared to demonstrate.
Two Parent Policy
Stratham Soccer has a two adult policy. The policy is to protect children and adults working together. When dropping off and picking up children from games and practices please be sure there are 2 adults present. If there is only one coach present, we ask that an adult stays until someone else arrives or everyone is picked up.
24-Hr Rule
We ask that if you have a concern that you want to raise with a coach, that you wait 24-hrs before addressing the coach directly. This will insure that calm heads prevail. Sports are passionate and even more so when involving our children. Please understand that your volunteer coaches are doing their best. Of course if you don’t feel your concerns have been adequately addressed please contact the Travel Team Coordinator (Aidan Barry Aidan@ef-nh.com) or the Stratham Soccer Board.
Preparation for the Season
The best preparation for the season is to go out and kick the soccer ball around. Some of the things to work on are
- Juggling—spend 10 minutes juggling the ball, try and improve the number of touches. Most kids will be able to do 2-3 touches. Try and get to 8-10 touches before the season starts.
- Wall ball: find a wall to pass one touch against. Alternate left and right feet. Shoot left, shoot right, one touch each foot. As you get better, increase distance and power.
- Play barefoot soccer with a miniball.
- Watch live soccer or on TV. Look how they use the space on the field.
Communication
Our primary form of communication will be 1) e-mail, 2) text messaging for game and practice cancellations. If you would like us to send announcements to multiple addresses please let us know. If you are not a regular e-mail user, and we can plan accordingly. Please be sure we have your cell #(s) if you want to receive a text for cancellations.
Volunteer Opportunities
Stratham Soccer is a growing program. We need the help of our soccer families to help keep the program running. There are numerous activities that need your support. If you are interested in helping, please see one of the coaches and they can discuss with you the areas that the organization needs support. These positions typically require less than 8 hours of time over the course of a season.
Expectations of Parents
- Always remember this is a game for children.
- Let coaches talk to referees and opposing coaches or fans about the game.
- Help your child with responsibilities and remind them about the importance of showing up on time.
- Be relentlessly positive with us!
- Encourage your child to try their hardest and regret nothing.
- Cheer for the team…Loud and Always!
- Never cheer against another team, they are children too just like yours.
- Help when asked to, Stratham Soccer is a volunteer organization.
- Talk politely with your coach if there is an issue and know that they have been asked to do the same with you (At Practice, not at Games). Wait 24-hrs before addressing the coach if you are angry or frustrated. If you can’t work it out, please talk to the Travel Team Coordinator or Soccer Board.
- Remember that coaches coach, parents parent and players play!
- Have fun and support your child! It’s a wonderful opportunity for your child to get to know other children from the area New England, make new friends, experience different places and learn to work in a team environment!
Have a great summer. [Please feel free to contact us using the form below.]
